Review Of The Electrolux EXP09HN1WI Portable Air Conditioning Unit

While summer is not here yet, I’m still finding all sorts of new ways to use my air conditioner. The great thing about the Electrolux portable air conditioner is that in addition to cooling a room, it also incorporates unique features that will allow you to also heat up a room.

For those suffering from allergies, this portable air conditioner also extracts moisture from the air and filters it for a cleaner, breathing environment. But is it any good? Here’s a review of the Electrolux EXP09HN1WI Portable Air Conditioning Unit and what to expect.

Electrolux Portable Air Conditioner Review

Electrolux EXP09HN1WI

What I like

  • 3 in 1 function
  • Beautiful design
  • User friendly
  • Respected brand

What I don’t like

  •  Requires plumbing
  •  Not as portable

What Are You Buying?

Complete with its smooth, roll off the tongue EXP09HN1WI, the Electrolux air condition unit comes across as a well built, unit with a white plastic exterior. This portable conditioner is designed to cool a single room that is quite modest in size.

Of course, most UK homes should be just fine – unless of course, you live in a mansion with big, open rooms. The Electrolux incorporates all the features you would expect in a modern conditioner. This includes the latest heat pump technology that provides exceptionally high-performance conditioning.

Unlike some of my old fans that would simply move air around, the Electrolux actually works to reduce the air temperature. Like some other top brands, this one draws hot air over an evaporator that contains cold refrigerants and blows cool air through the front vents.

You have to give it up to the manufacturer for turning a simple air conditioner into an all year round appliance. The Electrolux air conditioner works in opposite to heat your room in case the temperatures drop to uncomfortable lows.

However, there’s one thing that I feel you should know and will call out the manufacturers for it. Despite being pitched as a highly portable unit, the Electrolux EXP09HN1WI air conditioner is not really that portable.

Might be just my experience; but even with the wheels and castors to assist in transportation, the unit is a tad massive and a whopping 760mm tall. Moreover, there are all the vents and piping at the rear to add to the overall footprint. I’m just saying, portability isn’t what it used to be anymore.

How Easy Is It To Use?

Once you set up the air conditioner in a room of your choice, the unit’s simple and straightforward design makes operation very user-friendly.

I’ll be the first to admit; I’ve used some cheap conditioners in the past that seem to go out of their way to confuse users. That’s why I enjoy the Electrolux’s controls which are conveniently laid out right on top of the unit.

They are also clearly labelled and illustrated, so you know where the fan speed controls are, the temperature knob, mode selector buttons, timer and other settings.

Of course, like most of today’s appliances, it’s not worth reviewing if you can’t operate it from the other side of the room. I’m talking about the remote control that lets you choose your settings and work the machine from afar if you’re too hot, too cold or too lazy to move.

Operating the Electrolux is made even more easier by the automatic operation mode that selects the appropriate operation according to the room temperature.

There’s also the automatic restart that allows the unit to restart after a power failure; a very essential function for people with allergies and respiratory conditions.

All in all, I found this particular air conditioner very easy to use.

Electrolux Portable Air Conditioner

Pros

  • Includes a 3 in 1 function
  • Beautiful design
  • Very user friendly
  • Respected brand

Cons

  • Requires plumbing to get the most out of it
  • Relatively portable (not as much as I would like to see)

Anything Else You Should Know?

While I’ve already called out the manufacturer for touting the EXP09HN1WI air conditioning unit as highly portable, it’s worth explaining why. Forget the size and weight, that’s nothing. My issue with portability is the way the unit deals with waste.

While cooling, the unit creates a lot of heat that has to be directed outside; otherwise, your conditioning will be redundant. This means routing an exhaust pipe outside either through a window or a hole in the wall.

Unless you’re planning to drill holes all around your house, I feel the Electrolux is well suited as a permanent conditioner.

Conclusion

The Electrolux air conditioner is a very reliable machine that actually does the job consistently. As long as you don’t overload it with large open rooms and open doors, it maintains preferred temperatures quite nicely.

If you need something that warms, dehumidifiers, filters and cools your air, then the Electrolux portable air conditioner is the perfect option for you. The operation gets even easier if you can overcome the portability hurdle and install it as a permanent appliance in your favourite room.
