If you are looking for a compact portable air conditioner for a small or mid-size room, the AEG AXP26U338CW ChillFlex Pro is one of the best options on the UK market at the moment.

It is a 3-in-1 portable AC: it cools, it dehumidifies and it can also work as a fan.

AEG ChillFlex Portable Air Conditioner Review

What I like

  • Quick and efficient performance
  • Easy to use and maintain
  • Very quiet (64 db)
  • 3-in-1 functions

What I don’t like

  • More expensive
  • No heating function

What Are You Buying?

1. Powerful and Quiet

The ChillFlex Pro is more expensive than most other portable air conditions but it’s also more powerful.

It covers small and medium size rooms of up to 21 square meters, making it ideal for most bedrooms, living rooms and offices.

It is surprisingly quiet (only 64db), considering its higher cooling capacity. Even at the highest fan speed, you can still watch a movie or put a baby to sleep.

At night, the low and medium fan speeds produce a soft soothing hum.

2. 3-in-1 Air Conditioner

The ChillFlex Pro has three functions.

  • Cooling: You can set the temperature between 16 and 32 degrees, giving you wide flexibility on how cool you want the room to be. The ChillFlex Pro uses less power than a central AC system, making it perfect if you want to save energy in the summer.
  • Fan: When it’s not so hot, you can use the ChillFlex Pro as a fan. This turns off the cooling function and leaves only the fan to keep the room cool. When in fan mode, you don’t have to set up the vent kit.
  • Dry: If the air is hot and humid, turn on the built-in dehumidifier. It collects excess moisture from the air, which reduces mould and bacterial growth as well as damage to delicate furniture and fabrics.

3. 3 Fan Speed Settings Plus Auto Mode

As I mentioned, you can select high, medium or low fan speed. This controls how aggressively the AC cools the room and the noise level.

When it’s hot, the highest fan speed provides the fastest cooling. Select medium or low speed when temperatures get lower.

At night, the lowest setting produces the least noise, allowing you to sleep peacefully.

If you don’t want to keep changing fan speed, leave the AC on auto mode. In this mode, the system will automatically adjust fan speed based on how hot the room is.

4. Fresh Clean Air

While the ChillFlex Pro doesn’t have air purification as one of its many functions, it nevertheless produces clean and fresh air.

It has an anti-bacterial mesh filter that captures large particles like dust, pollen and pet hair and ensures the air coming out of the AC is free of harmful bacteria.

Wash this filter every two weeks.

How Easy Is It To Use?

The most time consuming part is setting up the window vent. This is necessary for venting hot air outside the room.

But the AC comes with everything you need. It takes less than 10 minutes to set up the vent kit.

Once you’ve vented the AC and plugged it in use the remote or the control panel to switch it on and select various settings.

One of the settings available is an on/off timer.

You can set it to delay start-up or shutdown for a period between 30 minutes and 24 hours.

Since this is a portable AC, you can use it in any room. To move it, take down the window vent and push the AC along the floor on its caster wheels.

Just make sure that there is a sliding door or window in the room you want to cool.

What Accessories Are Included?

The ChillFlex Pro comes complete with a venting kit. You don’t need to buy anything else to set it up.

It also comes with a drain hose that you connect to the drain plug at the back when the internal tank fills up (the water comes from the dehumidification process).

AEG ChillFlex Key Features

Pros

  • Cools the room quickly and efficiently.
  • Quiet operation.
  • 3-in-1 portable AC.
  • Easy to set up and maintain.
  • Caster wheels make it easy to move it to another room.

Cons

  • More expensive – but that’s expected given the quality
  • Doesn’t have a heating mode – not ideal for year-round use.

Anything Else You Should Know?

If you see the code P1 on the display, it means the internal tank is full of water. The AC collects this water from the air when in dehumidification mode.

To drain it, place a tray under the drain plug or move the AC over a drainage and then open the drain plug to let the water out.

You can also connect the drain hose to the plug and then drain the water in a bowl or drain.

If you don’t want to keep draining the tank, leave the hose in place to continually carry water away although this will affect portability.

Conclusion

The ChillFlex Pro is one of the best cooling solutions for small and mid-size spaces. It uses less power than a full size AC system but still manages to keep the room habitable.

It’s also portable, allowing you to cool whichever room is occupied rather than wasting energy cooling empty rooms.
