Summary

If you are looking for a cheap and efficient way to keep the indoors cool without keeping the central AC on all day, we recommend the Amcor SF8000E portable air conditioner. Overall, the Amcor SF8000E is a great choice for those who want to keep their sanity and save money during the increasingly hot UK summers.

If the central AC is too expensive to run and a fan is not enough to cool the room, get a portable air conditioner (like these here).

It’s cheaper to operate, uses less energy because it only cools occupied rooms and doesn’t require professional installation.

For small and mid-size rooms or offices, we recommend the Amcor SF8000E portable air conditioner.

It provides excellent cooling performance for spaces of up to 18 square meters (193 sq. ft.).

It also comes with fan-only and dehumidifier functions.

Set up does require a bit of work because you have to vent it out the window but it’s nothing you can’t do yourself.

Amcor SF8000E

What I like

  • Great cooling performance
  • Easy to use and maintain
  • 3-in-1 devices
  • Easy set-up

What I don’t like

  • Not for larger spaces
  • No heating function

What Are You Buying?

1. Portable AC for Small and Midsize Space

I’ve already mentioned the main benefits of a portable AC – it’s cheaper to buy and operate, it is more energy efficient and you can install it yourself.

It’s especially handy for very hot weather when it would be too expensive to keep the central AC on all day.

If you just need to cool one or two rooms, a portable AC is perfect.

The Amcor SF8000E is designed for small and midsize spaces of up to 18 sqm. It’s great for the bedroom, office, nursery or living area.

2. 3-in-1 System

The Amcor SF8000E’s main purpose is cooling. It can cool the room down to 16 degrees Celsius.

It can also dehumidify the room. If the air feels hot and humid, as it often does during summer, simply turn down the temperature and turn on the dehumidifier.

If the temperature is not too high, you can save energy by turning off the cooling function and leaving just the fun operational.

In that case, the AC operates like a standard fan.

3. Compact and Highly Portable

Another big advantage of portable AC’s is that they take up little space. The Amcor SF8000E is especially ideal for small rooms with limited floor space.

The unit’s dimensions are 730 X 370 X 320mm.

However, it is fairly heavy, weighing around 21kg.

Luckily, it comes with caster wheels. You don’t need to lift it when moving it to another room. You can push it along the floor all on your own.

Setting up the window venting kit takes very little time. You can move it and set it up in another room in less than 10 minutes.

4. Washable Filters

Don’t worry about buying new filters every couple of months. The manufacturer recommends just washing the filters every 2-3 weeks or sooner depending on your home’s air quality.

How Easy Is It To Use?

You control the AC using a digital control panel on top of the unit. You can also use the included remote control to select various settings without standing up.

You can set the AC to your preferred temperature between 16 and 31 degrees Celsius. If you don’t set any temperature, the AC will operate in auto mode, automatically maintaining the room at 22 degrees and fan speed at low.

Other settings include fan mode, fan speed, dehumidifier mode and sleep mode.

There’s also an off/on timer that you can set between 1 and 24 hours. This lets you pre-cool a room before you get in or automatically turn off the AC after some time.

Overall, the Amcor SF8000E is easy to use. It will take a while to get used to all the settings and options but you’ll be familiar with them in a couple of days.

What Accessories Are Included?

The Amcor SF8000E comes complete with a venting kit. This includes the window adapter and a 1.5m hose.

You don’t need any other part or tool to set up the AC.

Amcor SF8000E Key Features

Pros

  • Great cooling performance in small and midsize rooms.
  • Easy to use – you can use the touch controls or remote control.
  • Easy to maintain – you only need to wash the filters.
  • 3-in-1: cooling, dehumidifier and fan.
  • Easy DIY setup.

Cons

  • Not ideal for large spaces.
  • No heating function – you cannot use it all year round.

Anything Else You Should Know?

You can only use the Amcor SF8000E if you have a sliding window or door. That’s because those are the only places you can set up the venting kit.

The vent takes away hot air from the room. Otherwise, the room would never get cool.

It takes only a few minutes to set up the vent and everything is included. You can also take down the vent and set it up in another room as long as there’s a sliding window or door.

Note: Unlike some portable ACs with dehumidifers, you don’t need to set up a continuous drain hose (but you can, if you want but that means having a water pipe always connected to the unit). Instead, the AC alerts you when the internal water tank is full. You can then manually drain the AC by placing a tray underneath it or pushing it on top of a drainage before letting the water drain out.

Conclusion

The Amcor SF8000E is a convenient, efficient and affordable way to keep your indoors cool when it’s hot.

It requires no major installation, is a breeze to use and, as long as you use it in the recommended room size, it cools fast.
