Delonghi DEX12 Dehumidifier Review

So I guess you’re here because you’re looking for the best dehumidifier for your home? I’ve recently had a chance to use the compact and smart Delonghi DEX12 in my house. I think it’s really good! Despite its compact size, the De’longhi DEX12 dehumidifier extracts a surprising amount of water from the air; 12 litres a day to be exact. It includes a dedicated laundry drying function and doubles up as an air purifier with a washable dust filter. Read on to learn more in my review.

What I like

  • Easy to set up and use
  • Dedicated laundry mode
  • Fast dehumidification
  • Easy portability

What I don’t like

  • Small water tank
  • No timer and remote control

What Are You Buying?

1. High performance dehumidifier

The dehumidifier can extract up to 12 litres of water from indoor air per 24 hours. This is good enough even for humid climates.

There are three humidistat settings: 40%, 50% and 60%. Once the target humidity has been achieved, the dehumidifier will automatically turn off.

2. Dedicated laundry setting

There is a dedicated laundry function that pushes the dehumidifier to maximum performance. This is handy when you need to quickly dry a load of laundry during the cold months.

According to customers, it takes about 4 hours to dry an average load.

Unfortunately, there is no timer function so you have to remember to switch the dehumidifier off after a few hours.

3. Integrated tank with the option of a drain hose

The DEX12 comes with a fairly small 2.1 litre water collection tank. It fills up quite quickly. You have to empty it once a day; more if you live in a humid climate.

The tank has a lid to prevent spillage and a handle to easily carry it to the sink. There is also a water full indicator on the control panel to notify you when it’s time to empty the tank.

If you don’t want to keep emptying it, there is a drain hose provided. Just connect it to a drain plug at the back of the unit and direct the hose to a sink or floor drain.

The hose is handy if you want to leave the dehumidifier on all night or when you are away from home.

4. Dust filter

The De’longhi DEX12 dehumidifier also doubles up as a purifier. But it only captures dust and other allergens like pollen.

It’s not a complete purifier but will do if you don’t need a full air purifier or already have one.

The dust filter can be removed and washed. Check the manual for instructions.

How Easy Is It To Use?

There is no installation required. Just plug the De’longhi DEX12 into a socket and press the power button. Set your preferred humidity level and that’s it. As I mentioned, it will automatically switch off when the set humidity has been reached.

The only bit of work involved is emptying the tank which fills up quickly. But you can connect the drain hose and save yourself the effort of lifting the tank to the sink once or twice daily.

There is no remote control but the control panel is easy enough to use. There are buttons for power off/on, humidistat settings and laundry mode. There is also an indicator for a full tank.

One thing I love about the DEX12 is the carrying handle at the top. It’s not something you see in most portable dehumidifiers. This makes it easy to move it from one room to another.

What Accessories Are Included?

The De’longhi DEX12 comes with a washable dust filter and a drain hose. You don’t need any other accessories or tools to setup and use the dehumidifier.

Delonghi DEX12 Dehumidifier Key Features

Pros

  • Easy to setup and use.
  • Dedicated laundry mode.
  • Powerful and fast dehumidification.
  • Handle for easy portability.

Cons

  • Small water tank.

Anything Else You Should Know?

The DEX12 is generally a quiet dehumidifier. At the highest humidistat setting, you’ll only hear a low hum and at the lowest setting it is practically noiseless. It’s perfect for nurseries or the bedroom.

Conclusion

The De’longhi DEX12 dehumidifier is not the most advanced or feature-packed dehumidifier. It doesn’t even come with a remote control and the tank could have been a bit more spacious. But when it comes to what matters most – making your indoor air healthier and more comfortable – it’s one of the best.

It’s a good choice if you are looking for a simple and affordable dehumidifier that works fast while saving energy.
