Summary

If fans are not enough to keep your bedroom, home office or living room cool, try the Pac 2000 portable AC. It uses less energy than a full central AC and cools better than a desk fan.

If you are looking for a compact portable air conditioner to cool and dehumidify a single room, the Trotec Pac 2000 E Local Air Conditioner is a great choice. With a cooling power of 7,000 BTU, it’s adequate for small to midsize rooms.

In addition to cooling, it can also dehumidify and there’s a fan-only mode for when you just need a little cooling.

The control panel comes with a handy LED digital display. There is also a remote control for when you don’t want to keep standing up to change the settings. A window exhausting hose is provided.

What I like

  • Superb quality
  • Easy to use
  • Cools and dehumidifies
  • Quiet operation

What I don’t like

  • Requires manual draining
  • Window seal not included

What Are You Buying?

1. 7,000 BTU Cooling Power

The Pac 2000 is designed to cool small and midsize rooms of up to 200-250 square feet or roughly 65 cubic meters. This covers most rooms in the average home and even some small offices.

When used in the right room size, it quickly lowers the temperature to 16 degrees. You can set the temperature anywhere between 16 and 30 degrees.

2. Cool, Dry and Fan Modes

The Pac 2000 is primarily a cooling AC; it doesn’t have a heating function. But it has a couple extra functions.

If you want to cool the room just a little, you can switch on the fan-only mode. In this mode, the AC will work like a normal desk or floor fan.

You can also switch the AC to a dry or dehumidification mode. This removes excess humidity from the air.

Note that the primary cooling mode stops running when you activate the dry and fan modes. Use the buttons on the control panel or the included remote control to switch between modes.

3. Night Mode and Timer

The night or sleep mode automatically adjusts the temperature to help you sleep better. You can activate it from either the unit’s control panel or the remote control.

If you want the unit to switch on and off automatically at a specific time, use the timer function. For instance, you can set the unit to switch off an hour or so after you sleep and then switch on automatically just before you wake up.

4. Anti-bacterial Filters

To make sure the air coming into the room is clean and healthy, the Trotec Pac 2000 comes with 2 anti-bacterial filters. They filter out dust and allergens from the incoming air. This is especially helpful if you or anyone in the house has allergies.

5. Auto-restart and Self-Diagnosis

The AC automatically reverts back to your previous settings when it restarts. It can also detect if there is something wrong and display an error on the LED digital display.

How Easy Is It To Use?

trotec pac 2000 reviewLike most portable ACs, you have to set up window venting before you can enjoy cool air. It takes around half an hour to set up and there’s no need to call in an expert.

The Pac 2000 comes with a discharge hose that you are supposed to position outside the window. This ensures hot air from the room is exhausted outside.

Unfortunately, the AC doesn’t come with a window sealing kit. Some of the hot air may circulate back into the house. If this happens, consider buying the separate AirLock system sold by the same company.

But once you have set up the AC it’s really easy to use. The remote allows you to change settings from the comfort of your couch. The control panel has indicators and an LED display to tell you what’s happening.

What Accessories Are Included?

In addition to the AC, there is a remote control and an exhaust hose. A window sealing kit is not included. You may have to buy one separately to properly vent the AC.

Anything Else You Should Know?

The Pac 2000 has a manual drainage system. As it cools and dehumidifies the room, it collects water in a reservoir inside the unit. When the water becomes too much you’ll see a light indicator on the control panel. Drain the AC over a bucket or drain.

Conclusion

If fans are not enough to keep your bedroom, home office or living room cool, try the Pac 2000 portable AC. It uses less energy than a full central AC and cools better than a desk fan.
